mixManor Studio

Multi-platinum and GRAMMY-winning mix engineer Richard Furch chose Carl Tatz Design to implement his personal PhantomFocus Dolby Atmos MixRoom™ named mixManor Studios (website under construction) in his Los Angeles, CA home. As with all CTD MixRooms, the acoustic design is dictated by the PhantomFocus Monitor System. It features (11) PFM UHD-1000p passive and (2) PFM UHD-1000a active Master Reference Monitors for the left and right, all rendering unparalleled precision monitoring. The facility is bright and spacious with natural light flooding the room through the window behind the Acoustic Lens™, and whose luminance can be attenuated with a remote-controlled translucent shade as desired. Another CTD feature found in all its Atmos rooms, is the motorized center monitor lift, programed to go up or down depending on stereo of Atmos use. There is also a client kitchenet whose walls are blanketed with the engineer’s many awards, and booth area to be used for the occasional overdub. A full array of plugins and select outboard gear enhance to rooms functionality.

Furch’s unique vision for the room was one of minimalism, eschewing a typical console for a small pedestal desk just large enough to accommodate a keypad and monitor controller, thereby minimizing reflections while all wiring is hidden in floor troughs emanating from a machine room, making the room feel as clean and uncluttered as the powerful monitor system sounds. Color-changing LED lighting with multiple programable scenes complete the gestalt of this one-of-a kind Los Angeles facility.
